Description
This item is a silver letter opener from the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas. My parent's got this in a gift set that included a pen and pen holder. My mom kept the pen / pen holder on her desk for years. I didn't realize she had the letter opener until going through my parent's belongings and now I don't know what we did with the pen / pen holder! Anyway all I have now is the letter opener. When I was researching this piece some time ago before I decided to list it, I saw a complete desk set that someone had from the Flamingo. I never saw the box that these items came in but I recognized the pen & pen holder immediately.
The letter opener appears to be silver. It is smooth, heavy and tarnished. I did not find any markings on it to indicate it is silver however. I have not tested or tried to clean.
It measures approx. 8 3/4" long. On the handle is Flamingo Hilton Las Vegas. The "H" and part of the "I" is all that is visible on "Hilton" and the "Vegas" has worn but is still legible. There are no other markings that I have found. There is a hold at the end of the opener which looks like it was from the manufacturing process.
I believe this is from the early 80's. My mom first took my dad to Vegas in 1981 and they made regular trips after that. I am also dating it from remembering the desk set in her office she had in the 80's.
