Antique Sandwich Glass Checkered Diamond + Fan Cup Plate, LR 55, c. 1828 - 1832. This is one of the early and thick glass cup plates made at the Sandwich glass factory. Ruth Webb Lee lists the rarity of this cup plate as uncertain, but today it would probably be classified as rare. I have been collecting and selling cup plates for almost 40 years and this is the second time I have offered this cup plate for sale! I offer this Sandwich glass cup plate here with no reserve and a Buy It Now. DIMENSIONS: This cup plate is 1/2" thick x 3 3/8" Dia. CONDITION: The condition is very good with some minor rim chips and roughness and no damage. This appears to have a crack running through it, but it is an annealing line that can be felt, but it is NOT a crack. This is a manufacturing defect prevalent in these very early thickly molded cup plates. There are also straw marks, bubbles, sand and other imperfections in the glass typical of glassware from this very early period.
