.
This "Banquet" Pattern was made from 1896-1905, making it between 115 and 124 years old. In my research, I found that this banana stand was first made by Bryce, Higbee & Co. and was called "Banquet", while some collectors called it "Medallion Sunburst", and was originally written up in a December 30, 1896 article printed in the China, Glass, & Lamps Magazine stating "The Banquet is an imitation cut glass pattern, a series of fine cut rings which cross each other at the horizontal center line, forming a chain around the article". It must have been made by reshaping the Cake Stand, as it does contain a "rum well" in its center. I also found a very similar banana stand made by the New Martinsville Glass Co, although most of those glass pieces only had one pleated circle around the medallion, while Bryce's has two. To add to the intrigue, when the John B. Higbee Glass Co. finally closed, Ira Clark, working at Bryce, Higbee came to the New Martinsville Glass Co. as its general manager, and was instrumental in purchasing several of the Higbee molds, so it's quite possible that the banana stand may have been made later. This Banana Stand definitely comes from a bye-gone era when American manufacturing was an "art", as can be seen from the gorgeously designed pleated medallion circles with diamonds and fans. Although it was pre-owned, it is absolutely in "mint" condition, which is amazing for its age. I only wish I had more because it is so beautiful. It measures about 10 inches across and stands 7 1/4 inches tall, and sits on a round base opening of about 4 inches across. It was purchased from a very old estate sale on Long Island. I found it sitting on the top shelf inside a closed dining room cabinet, where it seemed to have sat there for all of these many years and was never used, because there are absolutely no scratches anywhere on the banana stand that I can see, either on the top where the food is placed, or more importantly, no scratches on the bottom, where they would normally be expected to be found. I have been collecting unusual vintage objects for many years, and always try to describe the items as best as I can. I don't see any chips, fleabites, cracks, scratches, stains, cloudiness, or repairs anywhere on the Banana Stand, which is amazing for its age. It comes from a smoke-free home. I only accept PayPal, and never charge extra for packaging and handling. Shipping and Insurance by USPS Rate Priority Mail costs .85. Payment is expected within 3 days, after which I will immediately ship out the Banana Stand as soon as payment is verified by eBay. Buyer may be subject to sales tax which is collected by eBay, and not given to me at all. If payment is not received within 5 days, the Banana Stand will be relisted. Returns will be arranged only if I have shipped the wrong item, or if I have misrepresented the item or its condition. If you need more pictures or further details, please feel free to contact me.
