GORGEOUS 4 PIECE SET OF FENTON # 1012 "FLORAL AND GRAPE" VARIANT PATTERN OF AMETHYST CARNIVAL GLASS CONSISTING OF 3 TUMBLERS AND 1 PITCHER WITH A HAND APPLIED AMETHYST HANDLE
    .
This beautiful amethyst carnival glass was made by the Fenton Art Glass Co. from about 1910-1911, making it between 110 and 111 years old. In my research, I found that the Dugan Glass Co. made the almost exact same pattern of "Floral And Grape" Pattern with 3 main differences as follows: The Dugan pattern has two large distinctive parallel lines above and below the slanting lines and the Fenton does NOT have these two parallel lines. Also, the Dugan has much larger and more clusters of grapes, and finally, the vertical lines on the Dugan pattern fall down to the right, while the Fenton go down to the left, proving this is the Fenton pattern. Back then, as soon as one company had a "winner" of a pattern, the other glass companies "jumped on the band wagon" and made almost the exact same pattern with some slight variations so as not to be sued in court for infringement, but also wanting to "cash in" on the sales. Also, this is definitely an originally made Fenton water set because whenever Fenton remade a pattern, they always imposed their logo name on the bottom, and you can definitely see no such logos on the bottoms of either the water pitcher nor the 3 tumblers. This Water Pitcher Set definitely comes from a bye-gone era when American manufacturing was an "art", as can be seen from the gorgeously hand designed floral and grapes and leaves and tendril pattern. Although this set was pre-owned, the glass pitcher as well as all 3 tumblers are in absolutely "mint" condition, which is amazing for its age. It was purchased from a very old estate sale on Long Island. I found the set sitting on the top shelf inside a closed dining room cabinet, where it seemed to have sat there for all of these many years and was never used, and because there are absolutely no scratches anywhere on the Pitcher or the 3 matching tumblers that I can see, and especially no scratches on their bottoms, where scratches would normally be expected to be found. I only wish I had more because it is so beautiful. I'm sure that it was accompanied by 6 matching tumblers, which now have probably all been broken, because I couldn't find them anywhere I the house, and no one actually remembered 6 of them. Because the crimping (ruffling) of the top of the pitcher was done by hand, it is between 9 inches and 9 1/2 inches tall, and sits on a round base of about 4 inches across, and has a top opening of about 6 inches across, depending upon how you measure it, and the bulbous (widest) part of the pitcher is about 7 inches wide. Each of the 3 tumblers measures 4 inches tall, and sits on a 2 1/4 inch round base, and has a 3 7/8 inch top opening. There are a few air bubbles and "straw marks" here and there in the glass, which, I believe, gives each piece their "character". Remember, these were machine made and as you can see from the 3 part mold mark, do have their own "imperfections" but these are not considered "damage" in any way. I just can't believe how "perfect" this set is considering its fantastic age. I have been collecting unusual vintage objects for many years, and always try to describe the items as best as I can. I don't see any chips, fleabites, cracks, scratches, stains, cloudiness, or repairs anywhere on this water set, which is amazing for its age. It comes from a smoke-free home.
