    Description

    This auction is for an Antique "Thumbprint" Flint Pattern Glass Covered Sugar Bowl, probably Bakewell, Pears and Co., c. 1850-1860's. This is an attractive footed glass covered sugar bowl or compote with a very attractive "Thumbprint" pattern on the base and lid. This pattern used to be called "Argus", but now it is referred to as "Thumbprint". These covered compotes in this pattern are pictured and identified in, "Early American Pressed Glass", By Ruth Webb Lee. This beautiful covered bowl is offered with no reserve and a Buy It Now. DIMENSIONS: This attractive covered "Thumbprint" bowl is 8 3/8" H. (covered), x 5 3/8" H. (uncovered), x 5 3/16" Dia. at the top. CONDITION: The condition is very good with some nicks and roughness around the rim of the lid. But the appearance is still very good as the pattern hides the minor imperfections. This is a very early piece of flint glass and it has some bits of sand, bubbles and mold lines which are examples of the early pressed glass production flaws.
