1950's Steiff Reclining German Shepherd Dog 18" Long w/Button & Collar

1950's Steiff Reclining German Shepherd Dog. This gorgeous animal is at least 18 inches long. Depending on how you measure him, he is up to 20". I have read that he was known as "Arco" but there is no label. He does have his metal Steiff button in his ear, but no tag. His red leather collar is in beautiful condition.
"Arco" would be in great condition if not for his former owner deciding to cut open his mouth. I would guess a child decided they wanted him to have an open mouth for better play and took a scissors to him. He now has his original straw stuffing exposed at the mouth. This could be repaired by expert restoration. Somehow, he still looks wonderful as is, even with the vintage damage done.
Overall very vintage clean, though appropriately shows age. No stains or other tears. Just a tiny bit of wear on his nose.
